“FREE”
By Cherry Rose Ramilo

Everybody has goals for their lives. These might be straightforward, attainable objectives or fantasies of becoming a wealthy, well-known professional or Hollywood actor. There will probably always be obstacles that try to prevent you from achieving your objective, regardless of how attainable or logical a desire may appear. Everywhere you turn, this scenario may be found: in real life, in films, in books, etc. It's remarkable how my well prepared plans for myself have changed with each passing year since I started college. I aspired to be a policewoman when I started my first year of college (something I had wanted to be since I was a child). But as time passes, it has shifted from becoming a policewoman to an ambitious lawyer. It appears that the moment has come to begin living intentionally and making wise decisions.

As a student, I always wanted to accomplish things that my older sisters couldn't since I was the youngest. Although it was challenging to stay up late preparing for my examinations, the outcome is I’m one of the honors students in my class, which is an accomplishment that my sisters could never have imagined. I had the privilege of being on the "Dean Lister". These accomplishments were the result of a lot of hard effort and late-night research. The fact that I'm now closer to achieving my educational goals makes it well worth it. I come from a split home, as you are all aware, which simply means that my single mother raised me and my five other siblings. I simply want to encourage everyone who is feeling down and hopeless to use these difficult circumstances to become more self-assured and enthusiastic to pursue their goals.

Consider your sources of motivation throughout life as you work harder. Whatever the subject, I want to be of service to people. Because of the way I describe things, it occasionally doesn't work. However, the beauty of failing the first time is that it forces one to try again until they succeed. To study and grow is what college is all about.

As a scholar, I'm beyond glad to be a part of it, as I constantly say. In this turbulent world, being in ENCHILD means finding comfort, joy, and refuge. I just want to encourage my other co-scholars to follow our objectives, work harder for a brighter future, and be a good role model for the youth. Let us utilize our expertise as scholars to share good things with others and spread love, regardless of our varied faiths and cultures.

If you're wondering why "Free" is the title of my essay, it's just because, as a student, a daughter, and a scholar, I am—or should I say, we are—free to speak up, free to do better, and, most importantly, free to dream, no matter what it takes or how long it takes.
