こんにちは、エンチャイルドの広報担当、地球村山歩です。
今日もオーブレイ・マイルズ・ブクエさん（19歳、カラガ・ステート大学1年／ミンダナオ島ブトゥアン市バランガイ・アンバゴの奨学生）の寄稿を紹介します。11月28日に書かれたエッセーです。
ブログの読者の皆さんはすでにご存じのとおり、彼女は現在、大変な立場にいます。この12月に自宅が火事で焼失してしまったからです。
今回紹介するエッセーが私たちが現在オーブレイさんから受け取っている最後のものです。
感受性の豊かなオーブレイさんを通して読者である私たちはいろいろなことを考えさせられ、感じてきました。
オーブレイさんのご家庭のために祈りながら、彼女の寄稿の再開を今しばらく待ちたいと思います。
今の私の経済状況では、自分の好きな学科を選ぶことができませんでした。私は自分にとってかなり知識不足の分野の学科を選んでしまいました。
今の学科（コンピューター・サイエンス）がどのようなものなのか、そしてコンピューターの分野について知識の少ない私はどのように対処していけばよいか苦戦しています。
この学科でやっていけるのか、とても心配です。力不足の自分ではうまくいかない可能性もあると思うと、不安でたまりません。
しかし苦労や悩みはあっても、これが私でなければ、今の自分は存在しないことに気付きました。悩みに溺れるのではなく、もしかしたらこれが自分に合っているのかもしれない、ここが自分のいるべき場所だ、ここが自分の成功する場所なのかもしれないと、心に刻んでいます。
この学科に関する知識は不足しているかもしれませんが、私は学びたいのです。困難にぶつかるかもしれませんが、私は学ぶことをやめません。
私は新しいことや多くの変化に対して、もっとオープンであろうと自分に誓いました。この学科は私にとって新たな挑戦であり、それを探求することを私は望んでいます。なぜなら、これが私の成功への道かもしれないからです。
自分自身が変化を受け入れるようにしましょう。リスクを取って新しいことに挑戦することを恐れてはいけません。同じことを繰り返し、安楽な場所にとどまっていては自分の可能性を発見することはできません。恐れてはなりません。やってみるまで、自分に何ができるのかは分からないのです。

With the financial status that we have right now, I wasn't able to choose the course that I want. I got the course that I don't have quite any knowledge about.
It was hard. I am having a hard time adjusting and coping up with how this course is all about and how it works 'cause as I've said, I don't have a lot of ideas about this, about computers, to be specific. I worry a lot about how I will be able to survive this. I get anxious thinking that there will be a possibility that I won't be successful with this because of my lacking.
But despite everything, the struggles, the worries, I've realized that I won't be here, right now in my situation, if this isn't for me. Instead of drowning myself in worries, I kept it in my mind that maybe this is the right one for me, maybe this is where I am supposed to be and this is where I would succeed.
I may lack knowledge about this course, but I am eager to learn. I may encounter a lot of struggles but it won't stop me from learning.
I have promised to myself that I would be more open to new things and to a lot of changes. This course is new to me and I'm willing to explore it, 'cause who knows, this might be the way to my success.
Thus, let yourself embrace changes. Do not be afraid of taking risks and trying new things. You won't discover your potential if you keep on doing the same things over again and staying in your comfort zone. Do not be afraid. You have no idea what you are capable of until you try.
