　2月12日、19日にエンチャイルド奨学生たちによる「クリスマス・プロジェクト（サンタになろう！プロジェクト2022）」の報告会がオンラインで行われました。
　
　2月12日はミンダナオ北東部地域の3チームが、19日はマニラ首都圏地域の5チームが発表しました。

　さて今回は、マニラ首都圏地域のMLQチームの報告内容をご紹介します。

プロジェクト名：We Wish You A Healthy Christmas
チーム名：A Farm to Table Initiative

　皆さん、こんにちは。
　私は、クリスマス・プロジェクト「We Wish You A Healthy Christmas」のリーダーを務めるMLQ（マニュエル・ケソン小学校）出身のエンチャイルド奨学生、クリスティン・メイ・バクードです。チーム名、「A Farm to Table Initiative」のプロジェクト・リーダーです。

　昨年12月、私はMLQ地域のエンチャイルド奨学生たちと共に、カロオカン市のミラモンテ・パーク・ウェスト地域の恵まれない家庭に果物や野菜をクリスマス・ギフトとして寄贈するイベントを開催しました。

イベントの様子

　私たちはまず、対象となる受益者の選定に当たり、地域の自治体に受益者を推薦していただく許可を求め、自治体から承諾の手紙をもらいました。

　2022年12月23日、自治体の協力を得て、受益者が決定。ギフト・ギビングの配布当日に連絡が取れるように、受益者の連絡先をお聞きしました。

　2022年12月27日、私は両親と共に、ケソン市の市場に行き、地元の農家の皆さんの直売所を訪ねました。そうすることで、私たちが買うものが農家から直接仕入れたものであることを確認し、直接価格で購入することができました。近くの小売市場で買うよりずっと安く仕入れることができました。

　野菜・果物を購入後、私と家族はすぐにそれらをクリスマス・ギフト用にラッピングし、受益者の皆さんが住む地域のチームメンバー宅へ運びました。

プロジェクトの結果は…

　私たちのチームは当初、22,000ペソの予算を提案していました。この予算には、野菜代、輸送費、梱包材、ボランティア関連費用など、全ての費用が含まれています。しかし、グッドニュースとして、私たちは合計で18,412.75ペソに抑えることができたことです。予算のうち3,587.25ペソが残りました。

　30家庭の受益者に支援するのが目標でしたが、結果として45家庭に野菜・果物のクリスマス・ギフトを提供することができました。目標からさらに15家庭を上乗せして配布できた理由は、野菜や果物を卸売りで購入し、予算を節約することができたためです。

　少ない予算で目標を達成できたのはうれしい限りです。私たちは、徹底した計画と予算編成により、当初の予算から多くの節約をすることができました。

プロジェクトを振り返って

　今回の機会（クリスマス・プロジェクトへの参加）を与えてくださったNPO法人エンチャイルドに、私たちチームのメンバーは心から感謝いたします。周囲の人々が必要としていることに気付くことと、実際にその人たちに手を差し伸べるために行動することは別のことです（それぐらい、行動に移すことは容易ではないということです）。

　このクリスマス・プロジェクトの企画を実行できたことに感謝いたします。小さな手助けをすることで人々の笑顔を見ることができた時の感動は、お金に代えがたい喜びです。

　フィリピンのことわざに以下のような言葉があります。
　「Salamat at sa uulitin」（ありがとう、そして次を楽しみにしています）という意味です。

We Wish You A Healthy Christmas
A Farm to Table Initiative


　Warm greetings to everyone! I am Cristine Mae D. Bacudo, scholar from the MLQ Area and the leader of the Christmas project "We Wish You A Healthy Christmas: A Farm to Table Initiative."

　Last December, I and my co-scholars from MLQ Area hosted a Christmas event which aims to provide fruit and vegetable packages to indigent families at Miramonte Park West, Caloocan City as a gift for the holiday season.


EVENT PROCEEDINGS

　Together with the team, we identified our target beneficiaries by conducting a community-wide registration. Prior to the said activity, we seek permission first to the local government unit of the community where they have given us a letter of acceptance.

　The registration took place last December 23, 2022. During such, we asked for the full name, home address and contact number of our beneficiaries so that we can reach out to them easily on the day of the distribution.

　December 27, 2022. I, along with my mother and father, went to a local market around Quezon City where local highland and lowland farmers would drop off their goods. In this way, we could ensure that what we are buying are straight from farms and are bought at farmgate price (which is a lot less than buying it in retail markets nearby).

　At the same day after buying, I and my family packed everything right after, and then proceeded to transport the Christmas packs to our co-scholar living at the community where the packages will be given.

RESULTS AND OUTCOME

　Our team originally proposed a budget of Php 22,000. This includes all the expenses for the vegetables, transportation costs, packing materials and volunteer related expenses. But the good news is, we have only spent a total of Php 18,412.75. We have a leftover budget of Php 3,587.25.

　Our target is thirty (30) families, but overall, we have provided Christmas packs to forty-five (45) families. The packs given to additional fifteen (15) families are the surplus kilos of fruits and vegetables that we have bought wholesale.

　I am happy to report that we have exceeded our goals with a lesser budget. We are able to save up a lot from the fund given to us though thorough planning and budgeting. 

REFLECTION

　I and my team would like to thank NPO Enchild for giving us an opportunity to be a blessing to others. It is a thing to be sensitive to the needs of people around us, but it is another to think of ways to reach out to them and give a helping hand. I am grateful to have been able to lead the planning and execution of this Christmas project and no amount of money could top the feeling of seeing people's smiles as you lend a small help.

　As the Filipino saying goes, 'Salamat at sa uulitin (Thank you and looking forward to the next)'.
